| Asbury UMC History |
| The original plan for Asbury Methodist Church was the idea of a small group of lay persons, who had a vision of a new church in the Fort Payne area. It all Started June 10, 1960 when Burt Purdy and E. Paul Johnson mailed a letter seeking the interest and need of a church in the Northern section of Fort Payne. On Friday, June 17, 1960 at 7:30p.m., a group of people gathered at Williams Avenue School. This group shared the vision of a new Methodist Church. On August 13, 1960, the Reverend A. Tillman Sprouse, Superintendent of the Gadsden District, received twenty-two people as the first Charter Members of the Asbury Methodist Church (later to become Asbury United Methodist Church). |
